Verdi’s masterpiece Macbeth, based on Shackespere tragedy, and masterfully conducted on this occasion by Myung-Whun Chung, is a crescendo of drama and nightmares, incarnated by Lady Macbeth, a porcelain demon wondering on the scene. Damiano Michieletto is able to stage an oneiric atmosphere, filled with hallucinations and where a sequence of minimalistic scenes is determining the rhythm of the plot. The match between life and death, good and evil is designed by the presence of almost only three colors: black, white, and red. The singers are constantly engaged in a complex equilibrium between the sing and the act, fantasy and reality, light and darkness.
