To celebrate New Year's Eve 2017, the Teatro Real premiered, in the Main Hall, a new production for all audiences. The music of Maurice Ravel's famous work, Mother Goose, performed by the Orquesta Titular del Teatro Real, with musical direction by Carlos Chamorro, was accompanied by the always brilliant narrations of Fernando Palacios who, on this occasion, gave voice to some of the most famous traditional tales, such as Tom Thumb and Sleeping Beauty. The illustrations by Iban Barrenetxea take us into a world of fantasy that we won't want to leave.
The first editions of fairy tales appeared in France several centuries ago. Sometimes they were compilations of stories written with great care, other times they were new stories invented in the traditional style. The first author was Charles Perrault (Sleeping Beauty of the Forest, Little Red Riding Hood, Bluebeard, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, Tom Thumb...) Madame d'Aulnoy followed with The Fairy Room and Madame de Beaumont with Beauty and the Beast. A couple of centuries later (in the 20th century), Maurice Ravel chose some magical moments from these tales to inspire his work Ma mére l'oye. And a century later, we have combined fairy tales with music and a musical fairy tale has emerged.
