The music chosen for this Christmas concert, composed nearly three centuries ago by the young prodigy Felix Mendelssohn, transports us to a summer night when the fairies gather. The time and place of their meeting? The oldest oak tree in the forest, at midnight. Everything runs smoothly until a mischievous sprite appears and turns it all topsy-turvy. The famous Shakespeare play is full of fantasies which seem like dreams —or maybe nightmares.
