Tosca (Teatro Mayor)
Tosca, by Giacomo Puccini, is one of the most important operas in history and one of the milestones of the genre at the time of its creation at the end of the 19th century. During the period of the day June 17, 1800 takes place the drama of the lovers Mario Cavaradossi (painter) and the famous singer Floria Tosca: the city has recently been taken by the royalist forces led by the chief of police, Scarpia, who are pursuing the republican Angelotti after his escape from the prison of Castel Sant'Angelo. Cavaradossi helps him hide and also becomes a target of Scarpia, who tortures and condemns them to death. Tosca tries to save her lover by offering herself to Scarpia in exchange for safe conduct and to simulate Cavaradossi's death at the moment of the firing squad. And although Tosca ends up murdering Scarpia, Scarpia has already given the order to actually shoot Caravadossi. When Tosca discovers that her lover is dead, she decides to throw herself from the top of the castle.
