La noche de San Juan (Soirées de Barcelone) is a ballet with music by Roberto Gerhard, scenography by Joan Junyer and plot by Ventura Gassol that remained unpublished in 1939 due to the vicissitudes of the Civil War. The work had been created in the heat of the dance furor of the early twentieth century, against the backdrop of the European image of an exotic Spain and the overwhelming success that Falla had achieved in this field. The exile of all the creators who participated in its gestation caused the oblivion of this extraordinary composition of which Gerhard himself prepared a piano version that is used in this production.

More than eighty years after its creation, the Fundación Juan March, in co-production with the Gran Teatre del Liceu, recovers this ballet, in what is its world premiere. One of the original sketches of Junyer's scenography has been rescued, his figurines have evoked the costume design and a new choreography by Antonio Ruz replaces the original by Léonide Massine, of which no notes have been preserved.

Inspired by the mythical night of the feast of St. John and the fire celebrations of the Catalan Pyrenees, modern music with a popular air and frenetic rhythms describes torch dances, the parade of magical figures and the erotic movements of couples who, in intimate union, end up in a wedding at dawn.
