IT Dansa formed part of the Teatro Real's programme in 2021 with an entertaining and agile programme, with a very modern language, which the young company directed by Catherine Allard performs with energy and enthusiasm.
The programme opens with two choreographies premiered at the Grec 2018, Kaash, by Akram Khan, a piece that demands great technique, rigour, precision and physical power, and The Prom, by Lorena Nogal, a highly theatrical creation that speaks of the uncertainties of youth with touches of humour, longing and fragility.

Programme
Kaash
Pure dance performance created by Akram Khan and with music by Nitin Sawhney, based on tribal percussions that transport us to an energetic and wild India.
Akram Khan Company premiered the piece in 2002 at the Maison des Arts, in Créteil (France). IT Dansa performed the show for the first time at the Grec 2018. The choreographer and dancer Lali Ayguadé and the dancer Nicola Monaco, performers of this piece with Khan's company, have been in charge of transmitting their experience in the staging of the choreography.

The Prom
The party is over. A high school caretaker recalls some of the stories that occurred during graduation night. Unconscious loss, imbalance, appearance, desire or liberation will be the protagonists of these memories. A journey through the emotions of youth.
Lorena Nogal, once a member of IT Dansa, has created for the company this piece that comes to life on a musical collage from the eighties: ‘For me, the piece has been a return to the most tender and vulnerable youth. To return to the place where I studied and feel that it still has the same energy. To have the opportunity to observe how insecurity, life and action are present, strong and dynamic. It is the memory of an unconscious goodbye. A moment for reflection and to realise what you leave behind. A nostalgic image to remember and look forward with illusion’.
Since 2008 Lorena Nogal has been a member of the La Veronal team, alongside Marcos Morau, as assistant choreographer and principal dancer. As a dancer she has also worked with companies such as Gelabert-Azzopardi, Lanònima Imperial and Plan B Danza. As a choreographer she has won several awards in national choreography competitions. In 2016 she was awarded Best Female Performer at the Critics' Awards of Catalonia and was a finalist in the Dance Prize of the Institut del Teatre.

In Memoriam
The link between reality and memory is at the heart of In Memoriam. Reality is not memory and memory is not reality, but going back to the memories of the past helps us to better grasp the truth of the present. Our roots are strong like those of a tree, stretching as far as its branches.
From memory, the dancers explore the movements of attraction and repulsion, magnetism and anti-magnetism, in order to examine the meaning of the word harmony.
Sensitivity (attraction) and aggression (repulsion) arise from the same source in an intimate game of polarisation. They relate the caresses and the blows that remain deeply engraved in our bodies.

Music: A Filetta

Whim Fractured Fairytale
Whim is a piece about how, outwardly, we must keep our sanity, even when we are going crazy inside. Alexander Ekman invites us on a journey through human emotions by means of various situations inspired by everyday life. The dancers experience happiness, sadness, nervousness, stress, worry, disgust or anger, in an emotional journey that reminds us of what could be a day, a year or a lifetime. The piece premiered at the 2007 Barcelona Grec Festival.
In his early days as a choreographer, Alexander Ekman created Whim, a piece he conceived especially for IT Dansa. Since then, his works have been performed by companies all over the world, such as the Netherlands Dans Theater, the Ballet Opera du Rhin, the Bern Ballet, the Ballet Junior de Genève, the Iceland Dance Company and the Göteborg Ballet, among others. His choreographies stand out for their fast pace, witty humour, innovative treatment of common themes and intelligent transitions. All in all, they are works that surprise and transform audiences with their originality and innovation.
