At 95 years of age, Herbert Blomstedt is today a veteran in the world of orchestral conducting. His analytical precision and his knowledge of the score (usually closed when conducting) come for the first time to the Konzerthaus Dortmund with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, ‘a uniquely talented ensemble, completely devoted to the music and willing to sacrifice everything for its art’, according to the conductor. In addition to the effervescent Fourth Symphony by Franz Berwald, a composer whose work Blomstedt knows well, the maestro conducts Felix Mendelssohn's Third Symphony, a dramatic portrayal of the rugged landscapes of Scotland.
