In the first Festival in 1952, the two recitals given by Andrés Segovia, who was performing for the first time in Spain after 16 years of absence, stood out. And to pay tribute to the distinguished Andalusian guitarist, the artist whom many today proclaim to be his great heir, the Riojan Pablo Sáinz-Villegas, has been chosen. He will offer a recital with music from his latest album, which tries to capture the soul of the guitar with pieces that are absolutely emblematic of the instrument, those dedicated to it by composers such as Francisco Tárrega (so lyrical and emotive) or Joaquín Rodrigo (so colourful and difficult), but also those written for piano by masters such as Granados and Albéniz, many of which have become more popular even on the six strings of the guitar than on the eighty-eight keys of the piano.
